Attracting Deer with a Food Plot

It would be a great idea to create food plots near deer inhabited regions in order to attract them during the hunting seasons. As there would be multiple food plots, at least one of them could be used for the deer only which would become its natural visiting place. These plots could be rotated throughout the year in order to keep these deer under close view.

  • Benefits of setting up food plots - You can be free from all legal bindings as you have all the liberty to set up food plots in order to nourish the deer and make them healthy. But corn or seeds cannot be planted in these food plots in order to shoot the deer and the masses adhere by this law. These food plots become the ideal places to be visited by the deer and after getting healthier, they can produce more deer which will be of high benefit to the hunters during the winter months.
  • Clover – The most loved food crop for the deer is clover, especially the red and white ones. Since clover is high in proteins, the deer can improve their health after consuming them regularly from these food plots. Clover grows up to five years from a single year of seeding and moreover, these seeds can be easily found from good commercial food stores. Generally, to make these grow faster, they are mixed with alfalfa, rye grass and brassica.
  • Area - It is imperative for you to grow these food plots in a region which is naturally poor and the deer will never opt for your food plot when there is a thriving and efficient natural habitat that produces good quality of food on its own.

You should keep it in mind that these food plots must be created at places which are far away from residential areas as at times these deer can become a problem for people when they intrude in their gardens and look for food. The food plots must be wide enough and in direction of the sunlight in order to produce sufficient amount of quality food. Remember that the deer will not visit your food plot unless they are already present close to the region where you have established your food plot.
